My dissertation aims to understand the dislike for the ID card in Modern Britain.
I am looking for people who are willing to give me information and answer my questions about the ID card in UK.
Please leave me a message if you would like to help me on that. Thank you!!

No to ID - but yes to all other cards?

In response to:Dissertation Questions

I'm quite pro the ID card thing.
The prospect of this fills most sensible Britons with dread. The public bodies have shown themselves incapable of keeping personal data secure and, for some peculiar reason there are a lot of people in this country wo delight in exercising power over others and as we all know, knowledge is power.

The less information that the State holds on me the better.

As regards loyalty cards I agree with the poster above. I don't care what store tracks my purchase because I never accept loyalty cards and usually shop with cash. I am fairly immune to advertising and can ignore junk mail.

I have that choice.

What I may not have is a choice not to have an ID card and that, as a free-born Englishman is simply not on.

In response to:Final year project

I do not need an ID card because I know who I am. If any Policemen need to know who I am they can ask me. I do not belong to this country, I belong to myself.

The scheme to introduce the cards will cost billions of pounds, which will come out of our tax money, as if we didn't pay enough already.

The schemme will not prevent mad people blowing things up.

In response to:Final year project

i don't think that the dislike is for the card itself, but more for what the information on the card will be used for. The fact that it is a government initiative does not help either since the government has a penchant for losing valuable information on a somewhat regular basis. As a nation of consumers, not far behind the americans, the brits do not really care about who finds out what we buy. However, the is a very deep level of mistrust in the capabilities of the government to keep information secret. Plus there is also the fact that no matter what this government says with regards to the information on ID cards, there is a chance that the next government might shift the goalposts a little... and then the next... and what follows next?

There is also the desire to at least have the illusion that we are free, and ID cards will make that illusion a little more blurred
